THE DIRECTIONS TO EVANGELIZE, TO REACH OUT AND WELCOME, AND TO AWAKEN A DEEP RELATIONSHIP WITH CHRIST ARE THREADS WOVEN INTO THE OTHER THEMES AND THEIR INITIATIVES.
Bishop Randolph Calvo
DIRECTION I: Evangelize
Outcome 1. The Diocese will create an adult faith formation program for lay ministers in Spanish and English within one year. Within one year after that is accomplished, the Diocese will implement the program throughout the Diocese.
Outcome 2. The Diocese will establish and train catechetical missionaries as outreach to parishes within three years.
Outcome 3. The Diocese will encourage the implementation of Best Practices by facilitating the sharing of existing parish programs, ministries and sources (like “Bukas Loob sa Diyos” – BLD, a faith-based covenant community) within two years.
Outcome 4. The Diocese will build an evangelization ministry through technology and traveling support staff within two years.
DIRECTION II: Reach out and be welcoming to everyone.
Outcome 1. Each parish will develop within one year an outreach and welcoming program both for people within the parish and outside the parish who are looking for support, love, and community.
Outcome 2. Each parish will regularly give the Pastoral Center a list of all of its programs and activities, which the Diocese will use to create within six months and thereafter maintain a centralized calendar available for all persons to access on the diocesan website.
Outcome 3. The Diocese will begin promoting Catholic Radio within one year so that outlying parishes can benefit from listening to such programs.
Outcome 4. Within two years, the Diocesan Pastoral Council will oversee the development of a pastoral plan to reach out to Catholics who feel alienated because of marital status or sexual orientation or who have special needs due to physical disability, age, mental challenges or economic poverty.
DIRECTION III: Awaken in all people a deep relationship with Christ.
Outcome1. The Diocese will plan, develop, and establish a diocesan conference center in northern Nevada to facilitate and encourage more retreats, recollections, and missions at the parish, deanery, and diocesan level. This plan to be developed within one year and fully realized in three years.
Outcome 2. Each parish will offer a teaching Mass once each liturgical season, beginning within one year.
Outcome 3. Each deanery, beginning within two years, will host at least two community-wide events annually, not solely for Catholics.
