So we Catholics have a vocabulary, here are some definitions from the RCIA:
Inquirer: A non-baptized person who is in the beginnings of searching the Catholic Faith
Catechumen: A non-baptized person who has been through the Rite of Acceptance
Candidate: A baptized person from another mainline Christian faith. The baptisms are regarded as valid so there is no need to re-baptize.
Elect: A catechumen who has celebrated the Rite of Election and will receive the Sacraments of Initiation at Easter.
Neophyte: A newly baptized or received member of the Catholic Church.
Sponsor: A Catholic, who has celebrated all the Sacraments of Initiation and is living the faith, who journeys with the Catechumen/Elect.
Godparent: A Catholic, who has celebrated all the Sacraments of Initiation and is living the faith, who stands as witness for the Sacraments of Baptism and Confirmation.
