Frontier of Faith

Image

Frontier of the Faith began in 1951 as a missionary effort of the Diocese of Reno. Twelve of the twenty-eight parishes in the Diocese of Reno are mission parishes and require some sort of financial support. The objective of Frontier of the Faith is to help raise funds for the support of northern Nevada's mission priests and parishes.

The Diocese of Reno shares their stories even beyond the dry, dusty roads of northern Nevada. Frontier of the Faith publishes a newsletter called the Frontier Shepherd five times a year as a means of providing information about how the Diocese ministers to the parishioners.  This newsletter is sent to locations in all of the 50 states.

The readers of the Frontier Shepherd have the opportunity to ask for Prayer and Mass Intentions.  The prayer intentions are brought to the foot of the altar in the Bishop’s Chapel which is located at the Pastoral Center in Reno.  These intentions are prayed over during the masses held in the chapel.  Requests for Mass intentions can be offered on a specific date or can be non-dated.  These Mass Intentions are then said by our priests serving in the rural parishes in the diocese.  Stipends received from the Mass intentions help to fund these rural parishes.

The Ecclesiastical Province of San Francisco, of which we are part, now recommends the following:
     1.   A $5.00 stipend for a mass to be celebrated at a time left to the discretion of the priest.
     2.   A $10.00 stipend for a mass to be celebrated on a specific date.

Over the years, many benefactors have seen fit to include the Diocese in their wills and this has also been a great support for our mission parishes.
