Korean Ministry

It started between 1996 and 1997. At that time, a small number of Korean Catholics wanted to hold a Korean Mass in the Reno area, as the language barrier made it difficult to understand the English Mass and to make the sacrament of confession difficult.

We invited a Korean priest from the Sacramento National Parish to celebrate Mass once a month. During the first few months, Sunday Mass was celebrated in the homes of different believers. However, our community felt the need to have a permanent place to connect with the parish community, so we turned to the Diocese of Reno and reach out for help to Bishop Phillip Straling, and the Bishop arranged for us to hold Mass in the Holy Cross parish.

In 2019 we moved from Holy Cross Catholic Community, to Our Lady of Snows where Pastor, Fr. Robert Chorey welcomed us. Currently, with the consideration of our request, Most. Rev. Daniel H. Mueggenborg, Bishop of Reno decided to put our Korean Community under the protection of ‘Blessed Sales Thomas’.  We gather every Sunday at 4:00pm under the leadership of Father Won-hyeon Kim (Peter) who presides the Eucharistic celebration every other Sunday, and Deacon Sang-don Kim (Domin) leads the liturgy of the Word alternates with Father Peter. Both, Fr. Peter and Deacon Dominc belong to ‘Saint Jeonghye Elizabeth’ a Korean National Parish of the Diocese of Sacramento. Reno 교구의 우리 한인 가톨릭 공동체의 역사는

1996년부터 1997년 사이에 시작 되었습니다.  그 무렵, 소수의 한국 가톨릭 신자들은 언어의 장벽으로 영어 미사를 이해하기 어려웠고 고백 성사도 어려웠기 때문에, 리노 지역에서 한국어 미사를 갖기를 원하였습니다.

우리는 한 달에 한 번 우리 말 미사를 올리기 위해 새크라멘토 교구에 있는 한국 신부님을 초대 하였습니다.  처음 몇 달동안은 서로 다른 신자들의 집을 돌아가며 주일 미사를 거행하였습니다. 그러나, 우리 공동체는 교구 공동체와 연결될 수있는 영구적인 장소를 가질 필요성을 느껴 리노 교구와 Bishop Phillip Straling께 도움을 요청했고, 주교님은 우리를위해 Holy Cross 본당에서 미사를 거행 할 수 있도록  마련해 주셨습니다.

2019년에 우리는 Rev. Robert Chorey의 배려로 Our Lady of Snow 성당으로 이전 하였습니다. 현재는 리노 교구의Bishop Daniel H. Mueggenborg의 배려로 아주 작은 공동체임에도 불구하고 ‘복자 영업 토마스’ 한인 공동체로 이름을 정하고, 매주 일요일 오후4시에 Sacramento 교구의 ‘성 정혜 엘라자벳’ 한인 본당의 ‘김 원현 (베드로)’ 신부님의 주일 미사와 ‘김 상돈 (도미닠)’종신부제님의 말씀의 전례를 거행하며 만나고 있습니다.
