Advent will start on evening of December 2, 2018 This will mean a change in decorations and environment and in Liturgy as well.
The COLOR is PURPLE. However, this is not about penitence, rather it refers more to royal. We await the coming of our king. The third Sunday of Advent, the Priest may wear ROSE color vestments.
Liturgically, the GLORIA is NOT sung, with exception on the Feast of the Immaculate Conception.
This year we go to Gospel Cycle "A" (Matthew) and Year I for the Daily Mass cycle.
The ADVENT WREATH may be placed in the gathering space or near the ambo. The blessing for the wreath can be found in the book of blessing, BB-1509-1540.
The wreath ideally is to be blessed only the first mass in which the first candle is lit. It ought to be as big as to be seen clearly throughout the church, but NOT dominate the church, nor take away from the altar.
The wreath traditionally contains three purple candles and one pink. However, a white candle has sort of crept into wreathes the past years, but they are NOT necessary.
The decorations ought to be toned down during the season advent. As always, the decorations never ought to dominate the sanctuary space and take away from the Altar.
During Advent, the floral decoration of the altar should be marked by a moderation suited to the character of this season, without expressing prematurely the full joy of the Nativity of the Lord. (n. 305 GIRM)
